Hadiah Pintar

Reading gifts

Hadiah untuk minat membaca

A child who loves reading has a gift that keeps working for life. The trick is to match the book to the child: their level, their language and what they already love.

We include books in Bahasa Malaysia and English, and gifts that make reading easier, like a clip-on light.

Some links may earn us a small commission at no cost to you. We do not check individual Shopee listings or sellers. The search results are Shopee's, not ours.

Soft cloth and crinkle books

0 to 2 yearsRough price: under RM50

The dream: A first story that a baby can hold, squeeze and carry everywhere.

What it teaches: Looking, touching and turning pages. When you name the pictures out loud, it is also a baby's first lesson in words.

Safety check

  • Check that no buttons, beads or plastic eyes are sewn on; they can come off.
  • Pull the seams gently. They should be stitched tight, with no stuffing showing.
  • Choose a book that you can wash, because it will go in the mouth.

What to look for

  • High-contrast black, white and red pages for babies under 6 months.
  • A crinkle sound or different textures on each page.

Questions parents ask

How do I get my child to read more?

Read aloud together, even after they can read alone. Find a series they like, and keep the next book ready.

English or Bahasa Malaysia books?

Both. Children who read in two languages get the benefit in both. Bilingual picture books are a good place to start.
